If you’re seeking a peaceful escape surrounded by nature, Voco Jim Corbett, the first lifestyle hotel by the brand in India, is the perfect destination. Located in the tranquil Dhikuli region along the Kosi River, this luxurious resort blends nature’s beauty with modern comforts, offering an unforgettable experience for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Despite visiting during the monsoon off-season, when safaris were unavailable, the journey to Jim Corbett was very adventurous. After a delayed flight to Bareilly and a scenic drive, all the travel woes faded as I arrived at Voco Jim Corbett, where I was welcomed in traditional Kumaoni style. With the sound of a bagpiper in the background, I sipped on refreshing burnish juice and enjoyed a bite of the local sweet, Bal Mithai.

A One-of-a-Kind Stay

Spanning 13.5 acres of greenery, voco Jim Corbett is situated at the foothills of the Mailani range, offering breathtaking views of the Kumaon region’s wilderness. The resort features 70 spacious, well-appointed rooms designed for ultimate comfort.

Savor Unique Drinks at Kosi Bar & Kitchen

The first evening began at the Kosi Bar & Kitchen, the resort’s river-facing restaurant that serves delightful Kumaoni cocktails. We tried a gin infused with Timur, a pepper native to the region, and a coffee liqueur called Bandarful, which had a flavor similar to Kahlua. With live music and the peaceful sound of the flowing river in the background, this charming bar made for a perfect spot to relax, whether day or night.

Culinary Delights

The food experience at Voco Jim Corbett was a true gastronomic journey, with Executive Chef Tenzin Losel at the helm. We were treated to various dishes, from Mediterranean spreads to local Kumaoni specialties. The Mediterranean selection included cheeses, olives, zucchini croquettes, and garlic prawns, perfectly paired with Sauvignon Blanc or Prosecco.

The Indian offerings were equally impressive, featuring a variety of kebabs like Soya Malai Chaap, Paneer Tikka, and the regional specialty, Kumaoni Murgh Tikka. However, the standout dish was the Kumauni Thali, a hearty meal showcasing the region’s rich culinary heritage. The thali included flavorful dishes like Kumaoni Chicken Curry, Aloo Thewani, Bhatt Ki Churdkani, and Maduva Ka Roti, with the sweet ending of Jhangora Kheer.

Activities to Explore

While I couldn’t experience a safari, the resort offers an array of activities, from rafting in the Kosi River to exploring nearby attractions like Garija Temple and Corbett Waterfall. The resort itself provides plenty of entertainment, from morning yoga and poolside relaxation to badminton in the lush lawns. A high tea session in the mango orchard is an experience that is not to be missed.

Unwind at the Spa

After a day full of adventure, there’s no better way to unwind than at the resort’s Tattva Spa. I indulged in a rejuvenating massage, where the skilled therapist worked out every knot, leaving me in a state of blissful relaxation. The spa offers a range of treatments, blending ancient healing methods with modern wellness practices.
